ON THE RECORD: May 19, 2014: A CNN article ("Blogger's arrest shakes up Mississippi Republican primary") states: "So far, there has been no tangible evidence that links the campaign directly to Kelly." They are referring to Clayton Kelly, a Mississippi blogger who is charged with breaking into a nursing home in order to get a picture of Sen Thad Cochran's wife and then posting it to the Internet in some apparent slam against Sen Cochran. There have been no ties to the McDaniel campaign. Though I have some sense that maybe it is already happening to some degree, I hope credible journalists don't make any connection without any evidence. Sure, if the smoking gun is found then OK. Until then, politics is ugly but it is beneath the dignity of any credible journalist to make any charges against anyone that are unfounded. (That rules out news organizations like the Huffington Post, Slate, or BuzzFeed, but consider the source if you get information from them on any issues--occasionally they are accidentally right). At this point, and what I personally suspect based on available information, is that Clayton Kelly acted on his own in order to score political points against a politician (Thad Cochran) who he did not care for. It was a very low act, and as a blogger, I suspect will have a problem rising above should he continue blogging in the future.
