ON THE RECORD: Jan 27, 2014: Media Matters, who just a few weeks announced that the war they had against Fox News was over (and that Media Matters had won), released a press release today in conjunction with the State of the Union. Posted in its entirety at Common Dreams ("Media Matters on Income Inequality Coverage Ahead of State of the Union Speech"), it lists 4 events that they consider to have been an attack on raising the minimum wage, extending unemployment benefits, and student loan relief. (which are what Media Matters is calling "income equality"). The listed are all from Fox News: "1) Fox’s James Rosen said income inequality “exists as a function of the genius of the American Enterprise.” 2) Fox correspondent Doug McKelway once claimed it was merely "class resentment," that exists because "some people are better, smarter, harder-working, or luckier than others." 3) Bill O'Reilly called it "bull." 4) Fox contributors have claimed that there is "no way" growing inequality is "going to be stopped," that attempting to reverse it will result in "chronic unemployment," and that the Obama administration's focus on closing the income gap is merely a "distraction."

Z-NEWS NOTES: Jan 3, 2014: .Judicial Watch announces the top 10 most corrupt politicians of the year every January. This year there are 11 because 2 of them are tied together in the IRS scandal. Among them is Attorney General Eric Holder because: "In May 2013, Holder may well have committed perjury when he was involved in a back-and-forth with Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) about whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) could prosecute reporters under the Espionage Act for publishing classified material. In response to Johnson’s interrogatories Holder made the following statement: “In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material – this is not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy. Since Holder made that statement, NBC news reported that the attorney general had approved a search warrant for the email account and phone records of Fox News reporter James Rosen. As Hotair.com said at the time: “There is no other way to view this except as a lie. Even if Holder wasn’t under oath, that would constitute a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. It certainly should produce at least a resignation, and almost assuredly would require the appointment of a special prosecutor.....”

Mat 29, 2013: AG Eric Holder, in what appears to be an attempt to clean up some of the scandals he is buried under, has contacted several news agencies to aid in reviewing DOJ guidelines for investigations involving journalists. This is the same Eric Holder who said that he didn't believe the DOJ should be investigating journalists. Holder claimed he didnt believe investigating any reporters by the DOJ was anything he would ever do just before documents were revealed that Holder signed off and approved the DOJ investigation of Rosen. Both the New York Times and Associate Press said they will NOT attend any meeting with Holder, however, as he has requested they be held "off the record." December 9, 2010: David Neiwert (Crooks & Liars) "Fox 'straight news' reporter James Rosen raises laughable Obama 'security' concern, lies about Obama's promises": "First, on Bill O'Reilly's show Tuesday, Rosen argued, with a perfectly straight face, that President Obama had raised some serious concerns about national security because he had described Republicans in Congress as "hostage takers" with whom he had negotiated:
Rosen: "One other point, Bill, if I may, and this should concern a broader spectrum than just the president and his supporters. And that is the potential national security implications of a president of the United States broadcasting to the world that he is willing to negotiate with hostage takers if he believes the hostage is being harmed."
O'Reilly actually burst out laughing, assuming that Rosen was kidding. He wasn't. Then yesterday, on Happening Now, Rosen followed up with a segment about Obama's record regarding how well he's keeping his promises. It featured a clip of Obama saying, "Look at what I promised during the campaign. There is not a single thing that I said that I would do that I have not either done or tried to do," and "And if I haven't gotten it done yet, I'm still trying to do it." Rosen then told his audience: "That leaves little terrain as ground for contradiction, and yet the Pulitzer Prize winning website PolitiFact.com lists more than 500 broken Obama campaign promises." But as Simon Easter at Media Matters observes, that's a far cry from what PolitiFact actually reports -- namely, that of the 506 campaign promises they've monitored, Obama has actually broken only 24 of them"

James Rosen's first job after graduating from journalism school was as a producer for the New York television channel NY1. He then worked at CBS News as a researcher for lead anchor Dan Rather. Rosen joined Fox News as an on-air correspondent in February 1999. According to his Fox News biography, he has since reported "from 49 states and more than three dozen foreign countries across five continents". In January 2003, Rosen was named the "Funniest Celebrity in Washington" at the annual "Funniest Celebrity in Washington Contest" charity event, after performing a comedy routine that included imitations of George W. Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Helen Thomas and Tom Brokaw, among others. In 2008, Rosen's book, The Strong Man: John Mitchell and the Secrets of Watergate was published by Doubleday; it was a biography of Richard Nixon's Attorney General John N. Mitchell, and his involvement in the Watergate scandal. Rosen had spent 17 years researching and writing the book; the project was initially based on a grant Rosen had received from William F. Buckley, soon after graduating from journalism school, to write the book.
