WDIV announces today that Jeff Wattrick will become managing editor for ClickOnDetroit.com, metro Detroit’s number one local TV website.
Jeff Wattrick worked as a reporter/producer at WDET before escaping journalism to try his hand at non-profit endeavors and advertising. However, he couldn’t resist the siren song of metro Detroit’s foibles and excesses. He is the founder of the Dyspathy blog and later worked as a reporter/blogger for MLive Detroit. In his brief but celebrated career, he’s covered or opined on everything from Gary Brown’s whistleblower lawsuit and Super Bowl XL to Ambassador Bridge Gateway fight and social norms at the Mackinac Policy Conference. Jeff Wattrick, most recently a columnist with DeadlineDetroit.com and formerly a writer with MLive.com, next week becomes managing editor of ClickOnDetroit.com, the website for local NBC affiliate WDIV-Ch. 4. He replaces Lisa Ray, who left to join Denver’s KDVR-TV as the executive producer of a morning show. Wattrick, 36, will oversee and integrate “news and editorial content across all of WDIV’s digital platforms, and (help) chart digital strategy for the organization,” the station said in a statement today. “Jeff has the knowledge and understanding to deal with our content on several platforms. Having a talent like him leading our digital enterprises sets us up for long-term success and innovation,” WDIV News Director Kim Voet said in a statement. While working full time at Detroit’s Digitas office, Wattrick arrived on the local media scene in 2008 with his snarky Dyspathy.com blog that commented on local news, media, sports and other developments. He ended the blog to take a job as an editorial producer and writer with the statewide MLive.com news site in 2010. In 2012, he took a job writing for DeadlineDetroit.com, which announced last month it had exhausted its funding and would lay off all of its staff by Friday as its owners seek new funding. The local news site is original reporting and aggregated content.
