OP/ED BYTE: Apr 23, 2014: Remember the Homeland Security campaign, “See Something, Say Something,” which urged people to report suspicious activity? Let’s do the same for climate change — the clearest, most present danger of all — and report our concern to the officials who can stop it.Whenever you see something that makes you think about climate change, call, email, even tweet to an elected official and tell him or her about it. See on the news that Iowa’s just set a new drought record? Email a representative and say you’re worried about climate change. See an article about the Iowa City Council voting to raise Dubuque Street to protect it from flooding? Ask councilors to attack the problem at its source and divest the city’s holdings from fossil fuel companies. Contacting elected officials — whether local, state, or federal — is the most influential action you can take, since constituent voices are so important and political action so necessary.
