I knew it. I knew it. I knew it. It was a normal Fox News Night. O’Reilly was reveling in his triumphant appearance on The View. The rabid liberals ummm, I mean hostesses Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg walked out on Bill-O and left Barbabra Walters sitting there on the couch- stunned. It was a good talking points night for O’Reilly Factor…I wonder if Bill new that the evening would lead to liberals walking out on another Fox kid. From the Atlantic Juan Williams Fired by NPR For No Particular Reason (UPDATED) By Jeffrey Goldberg October 21, 2010 National Public Radio has fired the political analyst Juan Williams for comments he made about Muslims on Bill O’Reilly’s Fox show. These are two of the controversial comments in question, according to The New York Times: ‘I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous..

Sorry to hear you got fired by National Public Radio for saying on Fox that you get nervous when you see Muslims on a plane with you. It was dumb to say such a thing, but I don't think saying one dumb thing should be a firing offense.

Oct 21, 2010: Salon: NPR fires Juan Williams for anti-Muslim bigotry
On Monday, I documented the glaring double standard in our political discourse generally and in the world of journalism specifically, whereby anti-Muslim bigotry is widely tolerated, while those perceived as expressing similar (or even more mild) animus toward other groups are harshly punished (see, for instance, Octavia Nasr, Helen Thomas, Rick Sanchez). That double standard suffered a very welcome blow last night, when NPR announced it was firing its long-time correspondent, Juan Williams, due to blatantly bigoted anti-Muslim remarks Williams made on Bill O’Reilly’s Fox News program. |

Juan Williams (born April 10, 1954) is a Panamanian-born American journalist and political analyst for Fox News Channel. He also writes for several newspapers including The Washington Post, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal and has been published in magazines such as The Atlantic Monthly and Time. He was a senior news analyst for National Public Radio (NPR) from 1999 until October 2010. At The Washington Post for 23 years, Williams has worked as an editorial writer, op-ed columnist, White House correspondent and national correspondent. Williams is the author of Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965 (1988), a companion to the documentary series of the same name about the African-American Civil Rights Movement;Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary (2000), a biography of Thurgood Marshall, the first black American to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States; and Enough (2006), which was inspired by Bill Cosby's speech at the NAACP gala, and deals with Williams' critique of black leaders in America, and as he puts it, the "culture of failure." Williams has received an Emmy Award and critical praise for his television documentary work and he has won several awards for investigative journalism and his opinion columns.

On Fox News panel Sunday morning, Juan Williams attempted to substantiate Obama's claims about Benghazi being a false conspiracy, and said this about Benghazi: “There is a drumbeat among conservatives — including some at Fox News — to turn this into a full-fledged scandal as opposed to a horribly tragic episode that killed four Americans. And I do think that some Republicans — I’m not saying all — are trying to use this as a weapon against Hillary Clinton. Williams said there was “not one shred of evidence that the White House knew about this beforehand, they covered up anything.”
“To make a scandal out of this, really — you say this is not going away, let me tell you, this is gone away,” William said, turning to Karl Rove, to which Rove replied: “No, no. No, it hasn’t. The American people were lied to. Somebody concocted a deliberate lie that this was not a terrorist attack, that this was a spontaneous response to video that no one saw. The American people were having legitimate question, why were efforts not undertaken to save our people..........The death of four Americans and why they were allowed to die and no one went to their aid is not in the weeds, with all due respect, Juan! It’s not in the weeds!”
Juan replied: “What’s in the weeds is that you continue to prosecute this like there’s some huge crime. Karl, stop living in the past and trying to get after Susan Rice and whoever. This has nothing to do with Ambassador Stevens [Christopher] Stevens.”
Rove: "You may be comfortable with the American people being told a deliberate lie by the administration, but I’m not. And I think we need to get to the bottom of it.”
Williams: “Karl, you can continue to raise your voice, but it does not speak to the heart of the issue." Brit Hume chimed in: “One more thing, think of the list of — going around this table here — the list of questions that remain unanswered to this day are what make this still a legitimate topic. And, Juan, I’m sorry to say that this is simply not over.”
Williams: “It’s gone, baby. It’s in your head. That’s about the only place.”
Initially, the Obama administration and then Sec of State Hillary Clinton said they would get to the bottom of the events that happened at Benghazi which cost the lives of 4 Americans including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Since then, the administration has done nothing but block and hide information, people, and then decided that if Obama called it a "false conspiracy" (which he did) then the problem would go away. It hasn't.
