Manuel Bojorquez joined CBS News as a Dallas-based correspondent in May 2012, reporting across all CBS News platforms. Bojorquez comes to CBS News from WSB-TV in Atlanta, where he was a general assignment reporter since August 2006. While there, he covered a number of breaking and important stories, including Tropical Storm Fay, which made landfall in Florida four times and spawned more than 80 tornadoes across five states, the 2008 presidential elections, and the first Sunday service at Ebenezer Baptist Church after Obama's victory. He has reported on the growing tensions between the Hispanic community and immigration officials, a surge of deportations at local jails and the controversy sparked by a local supermarket chain advertising in both English and Spanish. In 2011, he was awarded a NATAS Southeast Emmy for Live Reporting.
Prior to his tenure at WSB-TV, Bojorquez had served since 2002 as a general assignment reporter for KNXV-TV in Phoenix, Ariz., covering stories across Arizona and the Southwest. In both 2004 and 2005, he won the Associated Press award for best live reporting for his coverage of the state's wildfires. In July 2006, he traveled to Mexico City to cover Mexico's presidential election, and also provided daily online articles and photo essays of the election. Bojorquez began his career in journalism in 2000 as a general assignment reporter for KESQ-TV in Palm Springs, Calif., immediately after he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California, where he was named Outstanding Broadcast Journalism Student of the Year.
Born in El Salvador, Bojorquez moved to Los Angeles when the country's civil war forced his family to flee to the United States.
