Aug 18, 2014: Creative Loafing: David Jolly working on bill that would require local law enforcement to be trained to use military equipment
Today Pinellas County Congressman David Jolly told CL that he's working on legislation that would address some of the concerns recently expressed about the issue. He says the bill would make sure that local law enforcement agencies have the certifications required to operate it. Jolly says it's been in the works since long before the situation involving the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson occurred. "We're examining some type of program to make sure that local enforcement that receive surplus DOD equipment actually has personnel trained and licensed to operate it," he said.

Apr 25, 2014: Tampa Bay Times: David Jolly a no-show at Bill Young ceremony despite being listed as main speaker
Rep. Jolly said in an interview that he was asked to attend a service for former Navy Seal Gary "Doc" Welt of Seminole, and chose to honor that request. Jolly, a former aide to Young, said "Obviously, I would like to have been in both places." As to attending the service for Welt, Jolly said, "In many ways it's what I think Mr. Young would have done." Young was well-known for visiting wounded veterans and their families, along with his wife Beverly. Mar 19, 2014: Riehl World View: David Jolly Won Despite DC GOP Betrayal
Mitch McConnell, the NRSC and below the NRCC would like you to believe it’s those “wacko” conservatives that are bad for the party and divide it. As this Politico item points out, just the opposite is often the case. ![]() Z-NEWS NOTES: Mar 13, 2014: Michael Mishak & Tamara Lush (Real Clear Politics) report That with almost 100 percent of the vote counted, David Jolly had 48.5 percent of the vote to Alex Sink's 46.7 percent. "Libertarian Lucas Overby had 4.8 percent. The election was to replace 42-year Republican Rep. CW Bill Young, who died in October of cancer, and the evenly divided district had been considered a toss-up" Both Republicans and Democrats, of course, are spinning the election results to their favor. Conservatives, however, need to look serious again at the Libertarian factor as it could play a part again in the 2016 election. On this election Republicans got lucky because the third party factor did not lose the election. Had the Libertarian vote gone to Jolly, Alex Sink would have still lost. In 2012, Mitt Romney took 47,20% of the vote while Barack Obama took 51.06% which left about 3.80 % to "other" (all the other people running). Assuming all the "other" has been cast for Romney it would have been dead heat with Obama winning by less then 1%. However, not all the "other" were right leaning (Rosanne Barr, etc) so it's that "other" factor that can make or break an election. Bill Clinton would NOT have been elected in his first run had it not been for Ross Perot. Disgruntled conservatives put their votes to Perot and between George HW Bush and Perot they both beat Clinton. Clinton however had the advantage of votes and won the election without a majority because of the split on the right. If this happens again in 2016 and we see a fractured conservative base or Tea Party choose someone else instead of the Republican candidate, it will be an easy win for any Democrat. Democrats are encouraging a Tea Party vs Republican turf war because they have everything to win from it. They could even get Hillary "What Difference Does It Make" Clinton into office. Mar 12, 2014: Wall Street Journal: Riding the 2014 Wave
Democrats are spinning the defeat as no big deal, but no one outside the MSNBC mind-meld believes that. Democrats got their preferred candidate in Alex Sink, who had barely lost the governor's race in 2010, and she outspent Republican David Jolly, a former Congressional aide and lobbyist who endured a rough January primary.

Mar 10, 2014: Washington Post: The candidates in the Florida special election don’t matter. Here’s why.
We're talking about Florida's 13th district special election, in which Democrat Alex Sink and Republican David Jolly have run lackluster campaigns against the backdrop of millions of dollars in outside spending that has upstaged them.
