ON THE RECORD: Feb 18, 2014: Tony Ortega (The Raw Story) seems to have thrown a fit by posting an article titled " ‘Justified’ actor Nick Searcy asked us not to call him a ‘Teabagger,’ ‘Ultra-Con,’ or ‘Bigot’ in this headline."  Without the need to say so it is basically a hit piece leveled against actor Nick Searcy. Oretga claims to have noticed Searcy because of some tweets made by Searcy and says "We thought, since he was so outspoken and rained down invective on people who disagreed with him on Twitter, that Nick might be up for an interview…" Now keep in mind the previous judgment made by Ortega. Searcey's response was: "Frankly, I don’t think I trust your website, after looking at it."  Raw responds: "I’m going to put up some of your tweets and let them speak for themselves. I was just curious about what it’s like to be an outspoken conservative in Hollywood. It would be great to have your actual response to that." SEARCY: Are you going to headline it “Teabagger” or “Ultra-con” or “Bigot”? RAW: How would you describe yourself in your own words? SEARCY: Not playing. Go back to your hit pieces on Christianity and decent Americans who disagree with you. " So, going back to Orteg'as orginal judgment about Searcy, he in turn posts this rather invective article. Ortega does post the tweets (which are fair game) but zones in on Searcy when clearly the vitriol on Twitter was a two way street in most of the conversations posted. But Ortega doesn't mention that. Now, what does this say about Tony Ortega and The Raw Story? Nothing flattering. It means that if you refuse to deal with them they themselves with get vindictive and write whatever they want about you. Especially unprofessional is printing the comments from the email exchange. If this were a relationship, Searcy would probably be needing to get a restraining order soon. Note to the Raw Story: this will not help if you ever need confidential sources to reveal information for fear that if you get mad or disagree you will disclose them in trade for a sensation headline. But, then again, it's not clear if The Raw Story is pursuing journalism to any degree. A few years ago the Associated Press lifted part of a story from The Raw Story with giving them credit for it. The AP said they at the time that the do not give credit to blogs. The Raw Story was very offended by that..as they should have been. Professional journalistic courtesy may be something The Raw Story wants but does not want to give.

Former Village Voice editor and Scientology expert Tony Ortega claimed Alley was "livid" with Remini for leaving, and suggested some of Alley's recent tweets were about the former "King Of Queens" star.
Tony Ortega (born 1963) is an American journalist and blogger who is best known for his daily blog about the Church of Scientology. He is currently executive editor of The Raw Story. Previously, he had been the editor-in-chief of the Broward-Palm Beach New Times from 2005 to 2007 and the editor-in-chief of The Village Voice from 2007 to 2012.
