Tucker Carlson once texted he hated Trump "passionately." Now he's endorsing him for president.
Former President Donald Trump has earned an endorsement from Tucker Carlson, the conservative media figure who once said in a text that he hated the former president. "I became an active Trump supporter when they raided Mar-a-Lago last summer. "I'm voting for Trump, and if they convict him, I will send him the max donations and I will lead protests. That's how I feel." (C Mandler/CBS News 11.30.23)

👉Tucker Carlson is taking his show to Twitter because he thinks Twitter is one of the last remaining outlets that still encourages free speech. (always disputable when someone makes that kind of claim). Carlson has a sign-up form on his website that will keep his loyal followers up to date on any pertinent updates regarding the new show. Notice the rightwing logic at play: I have been fired from Fox, MSNBC, and CNN so, clearly, I am the victim and everyone else is wrong. It has been rumored that Tucker Carlson and Elon Musk are working together to launch this new show, Musk went on record stating that there was there wasn’t any sort of deal or contract in place.

May 9, 2023: USA Today: Firing Tucker Carlson from Fox won't change what viewers want. Will the media win them back?
Overheated rhetoric is not a new feature of the American news landscape.
In the 19th century, newspapers were openly partisan and sometimes directly tied to a particular political party. And just as the “big three” era of alleged unbiased reporting gave way to more aggressive matchups on ideological cable news networks, so too the fallout from the split between primetime viewership leader Tucker Carlson and Fox News might be a glimpse of what the news business might look like in its next evolution.

Fox News was meant to be a TV channel for the man on the street. Sure, its primetime anchors might be able to live lives of luxury on their multimillion-dollar salaries, but that didn’t matter: this was a channel that told it straight and reported the real facts that “they” — the metropolitan liberal “ruling class” — didn’t want “you”, ordinary Americans, to hear.

Ray Epps, a onetime Trump supporter at the center of a Jan. 6 conspiracy theory, is demanding that Fox News host Tucker Carlson issue a formal apology and retract his claims that Epps was a government informant who instigated the 2021 riot on the Capitol.

Now let’s turn to Fox News. Tucker Carlson on day one released some clips and they were like, wow, look at all this stuff coming out about the shaman guy. Look at all this stuff about Josh Hawley jogging across the corridor. Look at all this stuff about Brian Sicknick and then — nothing.
The second day when we’re supposed, scheduled to be a day of more footage, nothing. And then you’re like, well, it takes time to go through the stuff, whatever, it’ll surely come out in the next day or the next day or the day after that, or this week. Nothing. And it looks like that’s it. It looks like the — I won’t say the fix is in, but I will — it looks like somebody dropped the hatchet on Tucker Carlson.
And I don’t know of any other way to look at this. I mean, obviously, one way to look at this is that Tucker reviewed the 40,000 hours of footage and realized that, you know what? By and large, I found just three clips and that’s it. That’s all I got. Tucker isn’t really saying.
But the other possibility, which I give it — this is the 99% possibility — is after the first day. And that’s remember, Chuck Schumer went on the Senate floor, “Rupert Murdoch, I demand that you stop Tucker Carlson.” And then guess what? Somebody stopped Tucker Carlson.
And who would have the power to do that? No, it’s not the, it’s not the, it’s not even Suzanne Scott, the CEO of Fox News. These are orders that are coming from above. And that would mean most likely either Lachlan Murdoch, the son of Rupert Murdoch, who is sort of the de facto guy that people at Fox report to — or Rupert Murdoch himself.
Rupert Murdoch, we know, is feuding with Trump. How do we know this? Because some very interestingly — and this all seem to happen simultaneously — all the organs under Rupert Murdoch’s control, of which I named three — the editorial page of The New York Post, the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal, and the Fox News Channel — all simultaneously turned against Trump. So it’s not as if you just have guys at these these outlets, they’ve all made independent decisions. No, again, this is a corporate decision from the highest level. -Dinesh D'Souza; Podcast 3.19.23

In theory, the right-wing cable network Newsmax competes with Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show, while other Fox programs benefit from his success. But Newsmax has given Carlson’s use of security footage from the storming of the U.S. Capitol nearly seven times as much coverage as his Fox colleagues since it was revealed on February 20 that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy had granted Carlson’s team exclusive access to the video trove. Mar 13, 2023: Radar Online: Tucker Carlson SLAMS 'Autistic' Donald Trump For Ukraine Remarks After Hatred For Ex-Prez Was Made Public
Tucker Carlson called Donald Trump “autistic” and criticized the former president’s claims he could singlehandedly end Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, RadarOnline.com has learned. In a shocking interview between the Fox News star and Full Send Podcast host Kyle Forgeard, Carlson did not hold back when Forgeard asked his thoughts regarding former President Trump’s recent remarks about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. |
“I mean, he couldn’t build a border wall in four years. So, you know there is a gap between promises and delivery with all politicians, very much including him.........But I will say in Trump’s defense, and maybe cause he’s a little bit autistic, he saw the stakes of this, like at the very beginning — and this is what I do love about Trump, particularly in foreign policy. He sees the big stuff. He’s like: ‘Wait, you’ve got Russia and China. They don’t trust each other. We can’t let them get together.’” |

Mar 13, 2023: MSNBC: DOJ dispels Tucker Carlson’s deceptive Jan. 6 narrative
Tucker Carlson’s framing of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol as a peaceful event was deceptive, at best. A new legal filing has given the Justice Department the chance to explain why. Sunday’s filing by the DOJ came in response to Proud Boys member Dominic Pezzola’s motion to dismiss the government’s case against him, citing Carlson’s March 6 show on Fox News. Pezzola, who is now on trial, is charged with seditious conspiracy and other counts in connection with Jan. 6. |
Prosecutors wrote in their filing: The trial record is replete with video, audio, and testimony proving Pezzola’s egregious conduct on January 6, which included viciously assaulting a Capitol Police officer, forcibly taking that officer’s riot shield, threatening other officers, using the shield to shatter a window, and then ... engaging in a standoff with a Capitol Police Inspector mere steps from the Senate Chamber. Of course, thanks to Carlson and his colleagues, Fox News viewers could be less likely to know about such violence that day. |

Former Vice President Mike Pence took shots at ex boss Donald Trump and Fox News personality Tucker Carlson over their handling of recent January 6 reports. |
"I was there at the Capitol, and let me assure you it was not, as some would have us believe, a matter of tourists peacefully enjoying our Capitol," Pence told the crowd. "Tourists don’t injure 140 police officers by sightseeing," he continued. "Tourists don’t break down doors to get to the Speaker of the House. Or voice threats against public officials. The American people have a right to know what took place at the Capitol on January 6." |
March 9, 2023: Virgina Pilot: Lawsuit against Fox News reveals Tucker Carlson’s caustic texts about Trump: ‘I hate him passionately’
Tucker Carlson wrote “I hate him passionately” in newly released text messages about former President Donald Trump as bipartisan outrage continued to build over the Fox News host’s effort to whitewash the Jan. 6 attack. Even as he cozied up to Trump in public, the messages show the conservative host actually despises the former president and considers him to be an epic failure. |
Carlson suggested that Trump would destroy Fox News and the conservative movement if given the chance. “I hate him passionately. … What he’s good at is destroying things. He’s the undisputed world champion of that. He could easily destroy us if we play it wrong.” In another text, Carlson conceded that conservative figures were “all pretending we’ve got a lot to show for” Trump’s tumultuous four years in the White House. “Admitting what a disaster it’s been is too tough to digest,” he wrote. “But come on. There isn’t really an upside to Trump.” 3.9.23 |

March 5, 2023: Virginia Pilot: Opinion: Giving Tucker Carlson Jan. 6 video violates the First Amendment
When the Republican Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy gave Fox News’ leading election denier, Tucker Carlson, exclusive access to surveillance footage from the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, he not only created a serious risk that information related to the security of the Capitol will be released to those who might plan the next attack. He also violated the First Amendment. Normally, the press does not have a constitutional right of access to government information, such as videos from security cameras. The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that there is no First Amendment right to government information. As Chief Justice Warren Burger declared in 1978, the Constitution is not a Freedom of Information Act and does not mandate that the government affirmatively provide access to information. But the Constitution does prohibit the government from providing selective access to important information to a favored few. During the 1977 New York City mayoral primary election between Mario Cuomo and Ed Koch, for example, both campaigns tried to exclude camera crews associated with one local television station from covering their events. The court held that such discrimination in access was unconstitutional, saying that once there is access granted to “some of the media, the First Amendment requires equal access to all of the media or the rights of the First Amendment would no longer be tenable.” The harm to First Amendment values is even greater in the case of Carlson, since the discrimination in access is designed to favor someone who supports McCarthy’s partisan interests. The government is not permitted to welcome supporters to access information while simultaneously barring its critics. Indeed, the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg stated that even though the State of California had no constitutional obligation to release the addresses of those it arrested, the state could not “release address information only to those whose political views were in line with the party in power.” |

Fox News host Tucker Carlson blasted the Biden administration Monday for what he called an “everything’s fine” approach to an Ohio train derailment that sent toxic smoke spewing from the site.
“We don’t want to second-guess anybody, we’ve got to assume everybody involved is doing their best under a highly stressful situation, but did you see that mushroom cloud?” Carlson, an honorary board member of the Daily Caller News Foundation, asked. “That was caused on purpose and maybe there was a good reason, again, no second-guessing, but what it means is those clouds of toxic smoke flew up and out and that toxic smoke almost immediately began killing animals and dead fish washing up on the shore. As one hazardous materials specialist put it, ‘We basically nuked the town with chemicals.’”

Carlson’s first swipe was to sneer, “I assume that a lot of actors who were, of course, against the Second Amendment probably don’t know a lot about guns.”

(Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s chief executive at the time, later reversed the decision to block the Post story and told Congress it had been a mistake.)

Feb 28, 2022: Salon: Trumpers play fascist peekaboo: Are Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tucker Carlson backpedaling on Putin?
Trump spent the week gushing over Putin, calling him a "genius" and insisting he's "playing Biden like a drum." Tucker Carlson of Fox News argued that the only reason Americans hate Putin was because they were victims of a propaganda campaign and that the real enemy was liberals at home. Anchors on Fox News repeatedly contrasted the supposed decadence of a "woke" American culture with the "serious civilization" of Russia's authoritarian government. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., made a surprise appearance at a white nationalist event Friday night. Right before and after her speech, the openly racist organizer, Nick Fuentes, led the crowd in a chant of "Putin, Putin" and praised Adolph Hitler.

Oct 8, 2021: Media Matters: Fox News keeps turning vaccine resisters into culture war heroes
In August, for example, network star Tucker Carlson touted the “brave souls” who refuse to “go along” with the “lunacy” of vaccine mandates, particularly health care workers, who he claimed must know more than those encouraging them to get shots. He then brought on one such person, a nurse from North Carolina who chose to leave her job rather than follow its requirement that she be vaccinated.
“What do you know that the rest of us don't know?” Carlson asked. “No one can claim that you're uninformed or you don't believe in science.” The former nurse responded by disputing the safety of the drug, saying that “we don't know enough about this vaccine” because “it is experimental,” and thus may not be “safe.”

ON THE RECORD: Feb 27, 2014: Michael Allen (Opposing Views) reports that "Fox News Hosts, Contributors Fundraise for Republicans" and you can clearly tell this author doesn't care for Fox News much. Of course, Allen cites Media Matters as a source and that kind of adds to the fire. Unfortunately, Media Matters is so blindly anti-Fox that they have become journalistically stunted and lack objectivity. For example, Allen writes: "According to MediaMatters.org, Fox News hosts Mike Huckabee, Oliver North and Andrea Tantaros, as well as Fox News contributors John Bolton, Deneen Borelli, Ben Carson, Sarah Palin, Karl Rove and Allen West are appearing at “Lincoln Day Dinners,” which raise money for various Republicans." The problem is, that with the exception of Mike Huckabee, none of the listed are hosts. They are Fox News contributors. Allen notes that "Fox News contributor Tucker Carlson was paid $23,500 to keynote the Oregon Lane County Republican Party Lincoln Day dinner in 2011." So he even calls him a contributor but still treats him like a "host," which, BTW, Carlson was not a host on Fox News in 2011. But, even still, he was a paid speaker. Allen notes "In contrast, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz recently pulled out of next month's Broward County Democrats Unity Dinner when it was revealed to be a fundraiser, reported Politico." Schultz is a host and not a contributor. MSNBC's Keith Olbermann got a suspension when it was revealed that he had contributed to a Democrat but, again, he was a host and not a contributor. A host can be available to speak to anyone, he just cannot donate to the campaigns. Schultz probably got more news about pulling out of the event then he would have gotten if he had attended. And the PR is the same: Schultz is Democrat. Who does not know that? Republicans can hire him to speak also, it's just not very likely that they would. Truth be told, an unbias media is a myth. The pundits who feign objectivity are, to me, the worst offenders. They lead people to believe that what they are saying is true because they are being most objective about it. No one gets taken in by the devil, they get taken in by the devil pretending to be an angel.

Dec 23, 2022: Greg Sargent posted an Op-Ed in the Washington Post titled "Tucker Carlson’s rage at Zelensky caps a year of getting things wrong." Sargent wrote: "Just before the midterm elections, Carlson wrongly predicted a “humiliating repudiation” for Democrats. Importantly, Carlson based this in part on Democrats’ wokeness and border policies, hubristically certain that voters would reject both. Carlson’s show also promoted 18 GOP candidates who went on to lose, as tallied by Matthew Gertz of Media Matters. And while Carlson backed Ohio Sen.-elect J.D. Vance, he also hawked Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masters as “the future of the GOP.” That’s almost certainly because Masters’s demonization of migrants (including ads featuring machine-gun fire at the border) was peerless. But Masters lost by 5 points — in a border state.
Outside our borders, Carlson also lionized Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro as one of the great illiberal populist hopes of the Western Hemisphere. This year, Bolsonaro was ousted after one term. (To be fair, Carlson was able to celebrate a hard right victory — in Italy.)
And Carlson has been ham-handed in his efforts to counter the House committee investigating Donald Trump’s insurrection with his own propaganda, even smearing the committee as “Stalinist.” He used similar language about the FBI search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

Dec 21, 2022: Carlson offered his opinion on the Zelensky speech before congress on same day: "The president of Ukraine arrived at the White House dressed like the manager of a strip club and started to demand money. Amazingly, no one threw him out. Instead, they did whatever he wanted. American taxpayers, Joe Biden declared, will continue to give Zelensky whatever he demands for “as long as it takes....Tellingly, Biden never specified what “it” is. “As long as it takes” to do what? Push the Russian army back to pre-invasion borders? Sounds reasonable. That’s what most Americans likely assume, most who are paying attention. But that is not what Zelensky means and it is not what he’s asking for....Zelensky is demanding regime change in Russia. That’s what Zelensky has called for repeatedly and every dollar sent to him goes toward that end,” he added. “So what happens if he ‘wins?’ What does the ensuing chaos look like? Thought about that? Who’s gonna secure the largest nuclear arsenal once we help Zelensky topple the Russian government? Who replaces Putin? The point was to fawn over the Ukrainian strip club manager and hand him billions more dollars from our own crumbling economy. It is hard, in fact, it may be impossible to imagine a more humiliating scenario for the greatest country on Earth.”
April 30, 2022: New York Times: What to Know About Tucker Carlson’s Rise
Night after night on Fox, Tucker Carlson weaponizes his viewers’ fears and grievances to create what may be the most racist show in the history of cable news. It is also, by some measures, the most successful. |
In the White House, Mr. Trump had a symbiotic relationship with Fox: watching, tweeting, talking frequently to the network’s hosts. But that presented Mr. Carlson with a programming problem as his new show ascended to Fox’s marquee 8 p.m. time slot: He wanted to reach the Trump base, he told friends and co-workers, but without being beholden to the mercurial president. The solution: embrace Trumpism, not Mr. Trump. The show would grasp the emotional core of Mr. Trump’s allure — white panic over the country’s changing ethnic composition — while keeping a carefully measured distance from the president. Mr. Carlson sometimes even criticized the president, and in private, he mocked Mr. Trump’s habit of phoning to head off on-air attacks. 4.30.22 |

For months, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson tirelessly promoted anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories on his show but wouldn’t say whether or not he had been vaccinated for COVID-19. According to Daily Beast reporters Justin Baragona and Lachlan Cartwright, however, Carlson bragged about being unvaccinated during a Saturday, April 2 appearance at an evangelical Christian fundamentalist megachurch in La Jolla, California.
Certainly, not all Christians are anti-vaxxer extremists. Many Catholic and mainline Protestant churches have helped their members find COVID-19 vaccines. But anti-vaxxer attitudes are common among far-right white evangelicals, including those who attend Awaken Church in La Jolla (a San Diego suburb) and applauded Carlson’s speech on April 2. --Alex Henderson; AlterNet 4.12.22

Dec 10, 2021: New York Times: Late Night Is Tired of Tucker Carlson’s ‘Foaming’ at the News
The Fox News host joined his network in insisting the company’s burned-down Christmas tree is proof of the war on Christmas. |
On Thursday, Fox News hosts continued their insistence that the Christmas tree outside its headquarters had been burned down as part of the war on Christmas. Jimmy Kimmel said the network must not have had anything else to talk about this week, “because they really went to town on this ‘We have been victimized’ jag, and no one did more phony foaming at the mouth than the little dumber boy,” referring to Tucker Carlson. “According to Tucker Carlson, this is not an isolated incident of some disturbed rando lighting their tree on fire,” Stephen Colbert said, even though the police have said the suspect was a homeless man, and that drugs or mental illness could have been a factor in the torching. |
“[imitating (Tucker) Carlson] When will it end? Will every new variant mean new powers for our political class? Will they be able to test you, trace you, come to your house and inject you with a microchip hidden in a vaccine that tracks your movements? And will that tracking microchip allow them to see that you went to the anime convention, in secret, of course, because you didn’t want your friends at Fox News to know you’re into that kind of thing. And will they find out about the time you asked Sean Hannity what he thought of ‘Dragon Ball Z,’ and he looked at you like you were crazy, and that hurt your feelings so much that you ran into the bathroom to cry, only to realize you had run into the women’s bathroom and you were so worried that someone would see you run out that you instead removed a ceiling panel and climbed into a heating duct for the purposes of shimmying back to your office, not knowing that the duct wouldn’t be strong enough to support your weight, causing you to, mid-shimmy, collapse through the ceiling, where you landed on top of Rupert Murdoch’s desk while he was sitting at it, causing him to look up from his soup and yell ‘Crikey!’ Will that happen to you? Well, I can tell you it will because it happened to me.” — SETH MEYERS 12.10.21

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson ended his 17-minute monologue on Afghan refugees Wednesday night by going after Rep. Ilhan Omar, who has sparred with him indirectly for years.
Carlson rolled some of Omar’s recent comments on accepting refugees, noting that she herself was a refugee from Somalia, before saying he wasn’t going to attack her: “We’re not going to do that. The truth is this is our fault. She is our fault. Ilhan Omar is living proof that we are not very good at resettling refugees. She was saved from a refugee camp in Kenya as a child by the kindness and generosity of America and yet she has grown to hate America and the people who live here. Where did she learn those attitudes? Well, of course, in college — our colleges. We taught her to hate our country. She became worse after she got here.”

SCA Names The Daily Caller “Most Unethical News Publication”
Press Release / May 20, 2013 Washington, DC –
The Secular Coalition for America today named the Daily Caller “the most unethical news publication.” The Daily Caller earned the “award” after numerous discriminatory and unethical emails were sent by Christopher Bedford, Associate Editor at the Daily Caller, to the Secular Coalition. The most recent email read, “Take a day off from hating God, kids and babies.” Bedford’s actions were supported by Daily Caller Editor in Chief, Tucker Carlson.
The Secular Coalition said the journalism code of ethics—which includes principles of truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality and fairness—must be extended to all groups equally regardless of religious belief or nonbelief. The Coalition decided to issue the award as a lighthearted way of drawing attention to media bias against nontheists.
The issue of media bias impacts the nontheistic community, but it is one area that is often ignored in discussions of discrimination against nontheists. The Freethought Society keeps a list of instances of media-related discrimination against nontheists, including stereotyping by the media.
Edwina Rogers, executive director of the Secular Coalition for America, said the Coalition routinely receives comments from reporters that indicate bias against nontheists, “but the Daily Caller takes the cake.”
The most recent example of poor journalistic ethics on the part of the Daily Caller came on May 3, in response to a press release the Secular Coalition sent on the so-called morning after pill, or “Plan B.” After his initial email, Bedford followed up with:
“I’m not sure what y’all believe in beyond annoying America, but if it’s what most atheists believe, I hope it comes true: I hope you live a long, happy life surrounded by friends and family, and when, in many years time, it is your turn to rejoin your earth mommy, you become one with her, growing into a majestic and beautiful tree that some hardworking American fells, turns into paper and prints a Bible on.”
Bedford has responded to at least five SCA press releases with escalating rhetoric over the course of the last year. The majority of responses espoused negative sentiments toward the nontheistic viewpoint, but one, sent to the Secular Coalition’s female communications manager, read “Here’s a Dick pic.” Only after scrolling to the bottom of the email was a picture of Dick Cheney visible.
When Executive Director, Edwina Rogers contacted The Daily Caller’s Editor in Chief, Tucker Carlson, to discuss religiously-based media bias at the Daily Caller, Carlson supported Bedford’s actions and statements saying, “That’s not ‘hate.’ It’s disagreement. I’m confused by what strikes me as your disproportionate outrage.”
The Daily Caller claims that it is a legitimate news publication offering unbiased reporting. In an interview with Politico, Carlson described the publication’s work as “hard-nosed reporting” on politics and government and said The Daily Caller will not be tied to ideology but rather will be “breaking stories of importance.” In a Washington Post article, Carlson said “We’re not enforcing any kind of ideological orthodoxy on anyone.”
Rogers points out that impartiality is the foundation that allows journalists to cover news without imposing any ideological orthodoxy on the reader.
The Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics urges reporters to, “Examine their own cultural values and avoid imposing those values on others; Avoid stereotyping by race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, geography, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance or social status; Support the open exchange of views, even views they find repugnant; Remain free of associations and activities that may compromise integrity or damage credibility” among other tenets.
“The basic tenets of journalism ethics are clear—are we to understand that those basic ethics apply to other groups, but not atheists?” Rogers said. “We’ve seen overt discrimination in areas of media such as advertising, and the amount of news coverage given to religion vs. atheism, but discrimination coming directly from reporters—who are supposed to be impartial—is an area that is rarely discussed.”
Over the last year, the Secular Coalition has received nearly 20 biased responses from reporters who have received press releases. Other responses include comments like, “I feel sorry for you…I believe strongly in Jesus Christ and God the Father,” “You should be ashamed,” and “Move to Iraq. Then you won’t have to worry about it.”

He will start on April 6, one week before a new host takes over the talk show that MSNBC telecasts at the same hours on Saturdays and Sundays. |
Fox’s news release noted that “Fox & Friends Weekend,” which sometimes has a conservative bent, just like Mr. Carlson, outperforms the competing shows on MSNBC and CNN in the ratings, a fact that is equally true for the channel’s schedule seven days a week. MSNBC’s “Up,” a show on weekend mornings hosted by Chris Hayes for the past year and a half, will be taken over by a new host, Steve Kornacki, on April 13. Mr. Hayes is moving to weekdays at 8 p.m |

Washingtonian: The Bearable Lightness of Being Tucker Carlson He knows that people loathe him, think his career is in the toilet, and believe that his website, the Daily Caller, marks a new low in journalism. But the truth is that Tucker Carlson couldn’t be happier. |
The joke about mustaches and dirty words feels true because—let’s just say it—Tucker Carlson is not America’s sweetheart. The word “dick” is a frequent descriptor, often modified by “total.” That was the epithet Jon Stewart directed at him during their infamous Crossfire showdown, an encounter that hastened the demise of the program and, temporarily at least, deflated the world’s most ascendant pundit. Search Twitter and you’ll find Carlson deemed a hack, a loser, and a bunch of other names that magazines like this one don’t publish. He is “like that kid in the 2nd grade you just HATED,” one tweet says. |

While his currency used to be debate — at CNN he co-hosted “Crossfire,” and at MSNBC he tangled with the liberal commentator Rachel Maddow and helped make her a TV star — now it is clicks for his site. And to get those, he doesn’t need to talk to the other side. In this new role, Mr. Carlson is succeeding: The Daily Caller, backed by the conservative businessman Foster Friess and several other investors, has quadrupled its page views and total audience in two years and reported that it became profitable earlier this year without ever buying an advertisement for itself. 10.7.23 |
Oct 3, 2012: Hot Air: Video: Tucker Carlson presses his case on 2007 Obama speech
The morning after the big reveal on last night’s Hannity, The Daily Caller’s Tucker Carlson appeared on Fox and Friends to press his case that the media deliberately underplayed Barack Obama’s June 2007 speech to Hampton University |
Daily Caller editor-in-chief Tucker Carlson said on Fox and Friends this morning that the “very revealing” clip is an example of Obama using racially-charged rhetoric. The speech, given at Hampton University, also shows Obama shouting out Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who was in the audience. He tells the crowd, “The people down in New Orleans they don’t care about as much!” Carlson explained that in his view, “Obama is telling a majority-black audience that the federal government doesn’t like them because they’re black. He is whipping up fear, and paranoia, and hatred.” 10.2.12 |

Tonight, the Drudge Report, Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson seized on an unedited video of a speech President Obama gave in 2007, criticizing it for being “racially charged” — and also criticizing the media for omitting what they deemed the most controversial comments in the reporting at the time of the speech. Carlson, an MSNBC host at the time, was among those who reported on the video in 2007. |
July 15, 2012: Politico: Tucker Carlson defends heckling reporter
Tucker Carlson and David Martosko, editors of the conservative political site The Daily Caller, are defending the reporter who heckled President Barack Obama at today's Rose Garden address on immigration. "Yes, that was TheDC's Neil Munro who dared question the president in the Rose Garden," Martosko tweeted. "Everyone's defying precedent today, it seems." "This is what reporters are supposed to do," Carlson later told the Huffington Post. "They're supposed to get their questions answered." |
While announcing a new change in immigration policy, Munro yelled, "Why'd you favor foreigners over Americans?” “Excuse me, sir. It’s not time for questions," Obama said. "Are you going to take questions?” Munro asked. “Not while I’m speaking.” Obama said. Munro is the same reporter who earned the ire of Attorney General Eric Holder last year for a series of articles about the Fast and Furious gunwalking scandal. |

Sept 19, 2011: MediaIte reported that Greta Van Susteren harshly criticized Tucker Carlson for an explicit headline on his blog, The Daily Caller, which referred to Mike Tyson‘s controversial comments about Sarah Palin. Susteren branded Carlson a “pig”, for publishing the “disgusting post” and characterized it as “not just smut,” but “violence against women.”
In a seething 900-word blog post, Van Susteren took Carlson to task for a graphic caption which quoted Tyson alluding to Joe McGinniss’s sordid details about former NBA player Glen Rice‘s relationship with Palin. “Mike Tyson: Sarah Palin met the ‘wombshifter'” read the offending headline.

Jan 11, 2010: MediaIte: Mixed Reactions To Tucker Carlson’s The Daily Caller?January 11, 2009 marks the launch of what the right wing internet has been anxiously awaiting: Tucker Carlson‘s The Daily Caller a.k.a. the conservative answer to The Huffington Post. Upon first glance, The D.C. (coincidence?) looks sharp and leads with a marquee story probably hoping to set the tone for the site. In a large, two-tone font: “The Gate Crasher: The Mysteries of Carlos Allen.” But how’s the online peanut gallery reacting?
The Guardian puts them in good (read: profitable!) company already, as “the third Washington-based news site besides Politico and TalkingPointMemo.” Plus: “The welcome note from Arianna Huffington wishes “Happy linking” and claims the distinction between right and left being a leftover of an outdated mainstream media approach.”
MediaMatters, predictable, not enthused: “Not an auspicious beginning for Carlson’s new right-wing news site,” they write, before slamming a Drudge-like misleading headline.

Jan 2010: Washington Independent:Carlson Launches Right’s Answer to HuffPost
Last February, Carlson — the conservative former host or co-host of shows on CNN and MSNBC, and still a Fox News contributor — gave a speech to the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in which he urged activists on the right to “copy” the journalistic model of The New York Times. “They need to get out, find out what’s going on, and not just analyze things based on what the mainstream media has reported,” Carlson said. He was roundly booed. Four months later he officially announced plans to launch a news site “along the lines of The Huffington Post” with an ideology “not in sync with the current program.” When he talked with TWI on Wednesday, Carlson suggested that the desire for news like that, and the potential to break big stories, was greater than ever.
“When was the last time you saw, on television, a straight explanation of what’s in the competing House and Senate health care bills?” Carlson asked. “What’s in them? People want to know that!”
In the time between that announcement and next week’s debut, Carlson and his partner Neil Patel — a former aide to Dick Cheney — raised money, scouted out staff (“we didn’t ask about ideology,” said Carlson) and held poker games at their original, grimier office in Washington’s Dupont Circle. A June launch date was pushed into autumn, and then pushed back again. The reason, explained Patel, was that “our aspirations kept growing.”

2009

It’s not surprising that the White House doesn’t like Fox. Most politicians hate the press, and few hide it well. What’s new and remarkable about the Obama administration’s approach is the demand that everyone else hate Fox, too...........
A few hours later on CNN, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel repeated the talking point. It is vital, he said, “to not have the CNNs and the others in the world basically be led in following Fox.”
The official White House position is that the rest of the media should join Team Obama in ostracizing a news outlet that the White House doesn’t like. This raises several obvious questions:
Since when does the federal government get to make programming decisions, much less decide what is and what is not a legitimate news organization?
Where did political consultants—people who spend their lives lying to reporters—get the moral standing to make pronouncements about journalistic ethics?
When did liberals agree it was OK to use government power to muzzle opinions they don’t agree with?
And, most of all, when did the press decide to go along with all of this?

Feb 27, 2009: Michelle Malkin Op/Ed: I was amused to read about Tucker Carlson’s finger-wagging to conservatives at CPAC yesterday — apparently repeating the canard that the Right doesn’t do reporting like the vaunted New York Times and needs to stop “just analyzing things based on what the mainstream media has reported.” It’s one thing to see left-wingers pimp the myth that conservatives don’t do reporting. But to have a Beltway conservative show up to CPAC and lazily engage in such uninformed sanctimony? Funny thing is: Carlson was a terrific reporter in the early days of his own career…before he went on to become one of those many, you know, professional analyzers of things. Do as he says, not as he does.
He deserves all the boos he got.

July 9, 2003: Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, helped CNN Crossfire Host Tucker Carlson eat his words Wednesday, following the news that sales of her memoir "Living History" had exceeded 1 million copies.
Carlson, the conservative half of the political talk show, had repeatedly claimed on air that Clinton's book would never sell that many copies, vowing to eat his shoes if it did.
"I will in fact eat my shoes because I'm a man of my word," he proclaimed in one segment.
After liberal co-host Paul Begala played a video clip reviewing Carlson's repeated pledge, Clinton came from behind stage, surprising Carlson with a chocolate cake in the shape of a shoe.
