"Several Republicans did point to the idea of unequal justice, including fellow 2024 contender Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) and Trump loyalists such as Rep. Elise Stefanik (N.Y.), Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.). But the reaction from the GOP was generally muted; few put out statements or social media posts at all.
The tendency of the GOP is to fall in line; Trump’s numerous controversies have reinforced that that is the easy and most politically expedient play, particularly because he is the strong favorite to lead the Republican ticket in 2024.
But the strength with which Republicans actually defend him can also be telling. And Tuesday night, the response wasn’t that strong — particularly compared to Trump comparing his prosecution to “Nazi Germany.”

Feb 9, 2023: Brett Stephens: New York Times: How to Destroy (What’s Left of) the Mainstream Media’s Credibility
Leonard Downie Jr., a former executive editor of The Washington Post, has an idea.
In a guest essay last week for The Post, Downie made the case that newsrooms must set aside journalistic objectivity because a new generation of journalists “believe that pursuing objectivity can lead to false balance or misleading ‘both-sides-ism.’” He added, “they feel it negates many of their own identities, life experiences and cultural contexts, keeping them from pursuing truth in their work.” He even claims that objectivity was never a standard he upheld, even though the principles he says were the goals he pursued as editor — “accuracy, fairness, nonpartisanship, accountability and the pursuit of truth” — are the same as those upheld by most objective journalists and little different from what he elsewhere says is the dictionary definition of objectivity — “using facts without distortion by personal beliefs, bias, feelings or prejudice.”

Feb 13, 2023: The Algemeiner: New York Times & Washington Post Obscure Reality in Reports on Jerusalem Car-Ramming Attack
The most egregious contextual errors include:
The most egregious contextual errors include:
- The New York Times reported that the attack came “amid the deadliest period in years for Palestinians living in the Israeli-occupied West Bank,” but failed to mention that this period has also been one of the deadliest for Israelis.
- Both The New York Times and The Washington Post placed this attack within the context of the return to power of Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government, but failed to mention that this surge in Palestinian violence began last year under the more centrist Bennett-Lapid government (The New York Times mentions this as an aside in an infobox but not in the main article).
- Both newspapers create a false moral equivalence, with The New York Times blaming the escalation in violence on “the formation of new and increasingly active Palestinian armed groups and the election of a new Israeli government,” and The Washington Post ascribing Palestinian shooting attacks to “the proliferation of guns throughout the occupied West Bank among Palestinians and Israelis.”
- The Washington Post writes that “Israeli forces and settlers have killed more than 40 Palestinians in the occupied territory this year,” without mentioning that the vast majority of those killed are members of Palestinian terror groups who were engaged in violence against Israelis when they were killed. Similarly, it also writes that “The violence followed a spate of deaths in late January, when Israeli forces killed 10 people in the Jenin refugee camp … in what it said was a raid on a militant cell,” without informing the reader that the vast majority of those killed were known members of Palestinian terror groups who engaged Israeli forces in a gunfight.
- The Washington Post writes that “Over the past year Israel has conducted near-daily and often-deadly raids in West Bank cities and villages,” but makes no mention of the fact that these operations began as a response to a spate of deadly Palestinian terror attacks in early-to-mid 2022.
- The Washington Post mentioned the ongoing domestic Israeli debate over judicial reform three separate times (including two paragraphs at the end of the piece) even though this is of no relevance to the car-ramming attack in Ramot.
- While appearing to provide context for the Ramot car-ramming, both The New York Times and The Washington Post failed to inform their readers of continuing incitement against Israelis and Jews in Palestinian society, including pay-for-slay or the Gazan celebrations that broke out in response to the attack.

Feb 11, 2023: Breitbart: GOP Rep. Luna Decries ‘Incredibly Racist’ Washington Post
Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) blasted The Washington Post during an appearance on FNC’s “Jesse Watters Primetime” on Friday for a profile containing errors for which the Post has since had to issue corrections. Luna: “Well, they did start out with saying that I basically made up the fact that my father never went to jail,” she said. “And, as you saw with the records that we sent to Fox News, that’s completely false. My story, growing up within the welfare system, going to over six high schools, that’s not something that The Washington Post wants to tell the truth about. They also proceeded to leave out an entire interview with a roommate that I had that debunked a bizarre claim made by someone that was apparently stationed with me that claimed that I owned a firearm during this break-in.”
“So, fact is that we have these receipts. My attorneys already issued a letter of correction. Washington Post didn’t respond to a response from Fox Digital, nor did any of the other people that made these bizarre allegations. And we will be issuing these letters to correct to Vanity Fair and a few other major outlets decided to run with the story before they corrected the facts. I will say that People Magazine did reach out, and they wanted to wait to see this episode before they ran the story. So, I’ll be interviewing with them after. But it’s awful how they treat minorities, and the fact is that their undertone of their article was incredibly racist. They tried to undercut my Hispanic heritage. They even spoke to my mother and did report on a lot of what she was posting. So, the Washington Post is compost, and they should do better.”

First, most journalism in the United States, including The New York Times, is a business — a noble business, sometimes, but a business all the same. Democracy may die in darkness, as The Washington Post’s grandiloquent motto has it. But The Post will die if it can’t sell subscriptions and ads or lean on the savvy and largess of its billionaire owner.

Feb 6, 2023: Raw Story: Americans aren’t buying the GOP’s 'weaponization committee': survey
According to the recent Washington Post-ABC News survey, however, most Americans understand that the efforts by the GOP are absurd.
A whopping 56 percent of Americans see the GOP's "weaponization committee" as "just an attempt to score political points." Just 36 percent support it.
"What’s more, just 28 percent believe that government agencies are indeed biased against conservatives," cited Aaron Blake. "That’s more than the share that believes they’re biased against liberals (11 percent), but nearly two-thirds of Americans don’t believe conservatives are being singled out."

Feb 2, 2023; Bloomberg: Trump 2020 Campaign Suit Against Washington Post Dismissed
A defamation lawsuit by President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign against the Washington Post was dismissed by a federal judge.
US District Judge Rudolph Contreras in Washington ruled Friday that the campaign failed to meet the legal standards for defamation claims over the two articles at issue in the March 2020 suit. One was about the report of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, and the other was about Trump’s 2020 campaign strategy.

Feb 2, 2023: Dame: Media’s Lust for Conflict Is Failing the Public
Now, of course, individual journalists and media organizations have an easy out on this, as they can’t control what other journalists and news outlets people read or watch. That’s fair, to a point. At the same time, it can be argued that mainstream news organizations like the Times, CNN, or the Washington Post haven’t done much to fight for a world where the public can understand that the scandal in the Trump situation was that he refused to cooperate with authorities and tried to hide documents that the National Archives sought. Instead, by just framing this as an issue about “documents,” it can be argued that journalists are contributing to the public’s confusion about the differences. Jan 11, 2023: Arutz Sheva: The New York Times’ Orwellian obsession with Israel
I wondered: Is TheWashington Post equally obsessed with Israel? Try worse. In only the last three months of 2022, the Post averaged eight such articles every week—96 in total.
Although the headlines were a bit more accurate, the articles themselves were equally biased. While the Post did report acts of antisemitism and acknowledged that such incidents are on the rise, they repeatedly blamed them on Donald Trump, right-wing extremists and the Republican Party as a whole—as well as on Kanye West.

"It’s always been my impression that people who write editorials, whether it’s the New York Post, or the New York Times or wherever, do a lot more reporting than other journalists give them credit for. They’re calling people. They’re interviewing people. They’re talking to stakeholders all the time. And, you know, they’re not just writing exclusively off of news reports. And so yes, I do a lot of prowling around, which I do for the media stuff, too. I mean, that’s what we do. And that’s why the calling and the typing, calling, typing, emailing and typing, that’s all fun.' -Erik Wemple; Washingtonian; 1.6.23

"The Washington Post’s Aaron Blake and Chris Cillizza pose as objective reporters (even though Cillizza’s second home is on MSNBC agreeing with every left-wing premise thrown his way). Both, though, dropped their guard Tuesday to launch illogical and unfounded partisan attacks on Republican Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz...This is how journalists like Blake and Cillizza think and operate. Other than playing goalie for Obama, The Washington Post doesn’t want to know nothin’ about Benghazi or the IRS. But a 25 year-old rock, a fifty year-old haircut, and a sweet gotcha! against Tea Party demons like Rubio and Cruz (for an office budget that revolves around constituent outreach) … brother, there’s a story worth telling.
